Schneider
(Alexon) Benave - This boy is amazing. He's always smiling. He was
moved to tears on their first day of class at the orphanage when he
ran up to Summer showing his paper saying, "Summer, Summer, I HAVE SCHOOL."
He is a very huggy little boy, and he is just so happy that we couldn't
believe it. One morning, Bill, Susette and Summer took the boys out
to buy shoes. At a street vendor's stand, a group of about 6 boys all
had a pair of shoes that fit and Schneider kept trying to give a pair
to Susette, so she could have a new pair too. When the vendor gave her
a price Schneider made the other boys put their shoes away and walk
off. He didn't want them to pay too much.

Joseph Alceus - Joseph is an orphan whose parents were both murdered. Although his life was plagued by much tragedy, he is a remarkable boy of strong character. Considered extremely bright and a quick learner, he has a gift with mathmatics and has picked up rudemenatry English very well without much help. He consistently receives the highest scores in class and enjoys school tremendously. He is always well regarded by the adults who meet him and because of his quick mind often ends up with job assignments that allow him to use his keen mind. Joseph is well liked by the other boys and displays strong leadership ability. |
Elisee
Frederick-This is the smallest boy at the home, and what a sweetie
pie. He is also a cuddle bug and loves attention whenever he can get
it. He is the younger brother of Robenson Frederick, and Samuel Frederick
age 16 (not currently at the home). He would pat Bill's stomach and
say "Fahder." Bill wasn't sure if this was some sort of Haitian
expression or tradition meaning something more. When he asked the other
boys the meaning of this action, they said, "No, he just isn't
used to seeing such a big belly." This little boy is always ready
to help out with chores around the home. He is full of promise and very
excited about attending school for the first time in his life.

| Clifford Revolt - This little boy is the brother of Jhon Revolt a 17 year old that grew up in the prior boys home but is no longer living at the home. We observed Clifford to be a very quiet and almost sad boy. He is very little and we assumed that he was pushed around quite a bit but the older boys. He was very reserved with his emotions. Just as most of the other small boys have, he has blossomed since they were separated from the big boys. He has even been caught smiling and hugging on occasion! He likes to act like he is tough -- which is part of their street survival mode. But he can't resist a smile when you make silly faces at him. I think for the most part, he is trying to act tough because that is what his brother did all of the time. This little boy will go far! | Jocelyn Joseph- Joseph is a very special little boy that is a bit more on the shy side than most of the others. Wehave noticed that he hangs around the smaller boys at the home and when the cook was living there with her baby he would carry her around on his hip all over the place. He is very gentle and open to hugs and smile, but he hangs back a little in the background and just waits for his turn. He has a compassionate heart and loves kids. He also has a passionate love for Jesus. When he prays, he prays with passion and ferver. One day he wants to become a pastor and share the love of Jesus with others. He may likely turn out to be a very strong leader one day. | James Delva - Because of his natural leadership abilities, he has been named Little David. We think that for now a better name might be Little Challenge, if you know what we mean. During our late November trip some visiting Missionaries brought new sneakers for every boy there. Later on some of the other boys pointed out that James had 2 pairs of sneakers and was hiding one in a bag he was carrying around. He had another partner in crime named Ednea. David sat them down and scolded them for taking more than their share and James was so apologetic, he looked sick. He was relieved when we told him that we would write his name on his sneakers so no one could steal them. James followed me around for the entire rest of the evening saying sorry over and over. What an angel. | ||

| Macarel Cevrin - This little boy is by no means shy and the first word that he says to any missionary is "Ou Cone Samantha?" Do you know Samantha? (One of his sponsors) He is too cute and we suspect he knows it. He loves cameras and on a recent trip Summer let him run around the orphanage with hers. The pictures she got were wonderful and he was very proud of his photographic ability. This kid is a bit on the ornery side and likes to test his boundaries often - which is normal. However, it's amusing to watch him do things and look at you for a reaction. Despite his attitude, he is very affectionate and welcomes hugs and kisses on his little forehead. We also noticed that he especially loves worship time. | Edner Fevrier- This little boy should be renamed the CHALLENGER! He is a high-spirited boy who is very independent. This was the partner in crime that also had hidden two pairs of shoes and when he was tapped on the shoulder and asked him to sit and wait for a lecture on his behavior, he smiled. He took his rebuke and ran off, while the other boy sulked. He helped us on one occasion to barter with a street vendor. He has a keen business sence already! Ednea is a sweet heart, but he, like many of the other boys, needs to have his boundaries defined and reinforced. His strong spirit will likely make him a dynamic leader one day -- with the right direction, encouragement and the Lord's guidance. | Robenson Frederick - This little boy has been dubbed the comedian of the group. He is always smiling and joking. He loves to tap you in the shoulder and run away. He loves to lead the boys in worship and he's not afraid to be center stage -- in fact, it seems he rather likes it. He is often found leading the smaller boys around. He is very serious about school and is intent on finishing all of his schoolwork before running out to play. He seems to maintain a balance between acute business mindedness and a class clown! He loves to have fun but also recognizes when it's important to be serious. It is obvious that he loves the Lord and is very excited to hear stories about Jesus. | ||

| Yves Ajenisse - This little boy is very shy and reserved. He doesn't hide from attention though, it just that he doesn't seek it out. His best friends are James Delva and Alex Thoma. He tends to let them run the show and he is content to be in the background. We were worried about this boy on our first trip because he would just about drop to the floor to avoid adults. When you would touch his shoulder or try to look him in the eye, he would pull away and look down. He is coming around though and is more secure with his environment now. We are very excited that this boy is getting his chance. He is also a very attentive student and often practices writing in Creole even well after school is out. | Israel Jean Baptiste - This boy has risen to be a leader among the little boys. He is no longer the shy withdrawn boy he was in August when we first met him. He is such a hard worker and has no trouble getting a group of boys to help him mop the floors or clean up trash. Israel has significant burns on his face that was the result of a stove explosion he experienced as a young baby. He still has some pain on his face even though it is completely scarred over now. When we watch him with the boys you can see his obvious leadership skills. He has a very calm way with the kids and they just seem to know that they should listen to him. This boy is an inspiration and is destined to do remarkable things. | Alex Thoma - This boy is so quiet and withdrawn that we accidently excluded him from our head count because he was nowhere to be found and blended in so well. We kept thinking that there should be 13 and kept counting 12. One time, we found him in a room alone going over his schoolwork and singing to himself. We're not sure what has made this boys so shy, or if that is just a survival mechanism, remaining anonymous to avoid being harmed while on the street. He seems very intelligent and actually comes to life a bit in front of the camera. We are keeping him, as well as all the boys in my prayers -- to help him feel more secure and to know that Jesus loves him and so do we. | ||

| Patrick Toussaint - Patrick is one of our newest residents at the home. Approximately 12 years old, he has been living on the streets for the last three years. His mother has an illness that prevents her from working and therefore has to live with her daughter. At her daughter's house there was no room for Patrick or his older brother so they were forced to live on the streets. Recently Patrick's older brother was shot and killed, leaving Patrick alone to fend for himself. He tried to survive by finding jobs on the street or begging but it was very difficult. The other boys immediately took to him and consider him a "brother." He loves to play basketball and soccer and is the boy's first pick for goalie whenever we play soccer on Sundays. | Semi Charles - Semi is a friend of Patrick's and was introduced to us by him. Although Semi's mother has a small one-room place where she lives with his two older brothers and handicapped sister, she could no longer provide for him. He was forced to beg on the streets to survive while the mother sought medical help and assistance for his hydrocephalic sister. He is a very quite boy and really loves staying at the boy's home. His favorite activities are playing soccer and singing worship songs. He recently accepted Christ at the second church service he attended. | |||
